10 things I learned in 30 years

I’m hitting the milestone of turning 30 today! So that calls for a listicle! In no particular order, here are 10 things my 30 years of living have taught me so far. If only I could go back in time and tell 15 year old me. But then again, what’s life without the lessons? Continue reading “10 things I learned in 30 years”

Weekly Stats | Week 12

The last week of strictly avoiding all my food intolerances came and went. I really wanted it to be a week of full green bars. But unfortunately, god laughs when man makes plans.

So what can I eat?

The one question I always get when I tell people about my food intolerances is “So what CAN you eat?”. It’s a very understandable reaction 🙂 But while there are many things I cannot eat and drink (alcohol, coffee, wheat, cow’s milk and all its derivatives, citrus, soy and pork), there are also plenty of things I still can eat.

Last week was pretty uneventful, in a good way. I didn’t do all that much, spent most of my time resting.

In defense of tears

I hate crying (must not show weakness!) but occasionally I do break down and cry. I cry when I’m sad, when I’m angry, when I’m frustrated and even sometimes when I’m happy. I always feel better, often relieved, after crying but also slightly ashamed. Crying makes me feel weak. There’s such a stigma around crying. It’s seen as something that should be avoided. But since taking Anatomy classes I realised that everything in our body has a function, so tears must too. And it can’t be only to clean our eyes. Because then why would we cry over emotions?

Weekly Stats | Week 10

stats week 10

Last week was pretty tiring, a lot happened. Some good, some bad, some meh :). I only went to the gym once because I was pretty busy and it wasn’t a priority. My main priorities were my great-aunt’s funeral and preparing a presentation for a job interview (round 3 of 3!). I’m pretty impressed that I  ate out four times last week and still managed to stick to my intolerance-free diet. Getting up on time for morning yoga on work days is challenging. Hopefully a less busy week will help me get back on track. And even if it doesn’t, I’m not going to stress about it.

I often set myself (ambitious) goals, and I get rather annoyed if I don’t reach them. But that seems a bit counterproductive when it comes to yoga. My world won’t fall apart if I skip a yoga session. Que sera, sera.

Just 2 more weeks to go!

So last week was meh, yet again. I need to press the reset button on my life. I feel like I’m back on autopilot just trying to survive the days. This week is also quite stressful, hopefully this weekend I can take some time to relax and reset.

Last week was a bit of a dud. I even skipped two morning yoga sessions!

Weekly Stats | Week 7

Between being wiped out from work, celebrating my birthday and spending time with my brother who was visiting from Nigeria I didn’t manage much exercise. I did do yoga every morning. No matter how busy I get, I wouldn’t even think of skipping my morning yoga routine anymore.

Avoiding intolerances went well, except for Saturday evening. I ordered a ginger tea (at a cocktail bar … oh how my life has changed) and there was lemon in it.

I was very tired at the beginning of the week, but I felt pretty good towards the end of the week. Not working seems to be the key to feeling better …
